Civilizational Fantasies in Populist Far Right and Islamist Discourses

The article examines the affective potential of populist civilizational discourse. It reflects on two prevalent, opposing, identities to render visible their shared fantasmatic grounding. With reference far right and Islamist configurations, aims reveal hidden disguised elements discourse that I contend give it power. Drawing theory centralizes antagonism in social identification, use performances parties, organizations, individuals. argue these civilizationist are defined by an obsession with a closure homogeneity civilization.
